Right now it’s 53 days until Christmas. On one hand, 53 days seems so far away. On the other hand it’s ‘OMG it’s only 53 days until Christmas!! I have so much to do. How will I get it all done, freak out!’
Every year since the kids have moved out into their own places, I have been giving them a Christmas ornament. The past several years I have been knitting the ornaments, a snowman, a mouse fairy, penguins with scarves.
If you promise not to tell my kids, I will tell you what the ornament is this year. I usually send it with their cookie and fudge box after Thanksgiving. That way they can put it on their tree and they don’t have to wait for Christmas. But it is a secret until they open the cookie box. Ok, here it is, remember you promised not to tell….it’s a Santa Claus. There are great patterns out there, but I just couldn’t find the one that said, ‘Knit Me, Knit Me!’ (Don’t patterns talk to you?) So I created my own pattern.
I haven’t really done this before, but thought I should give it shot. I carefully wrote down what I did each step of the way and typed it up. Then I used it to knit up the second Santa. Is it ok to say it turned out pretty cute? I hope you like it too. I have included the pattern below. Please let me know if you find any mistakes.
Happy Knitting and Weaving – Until next time…Caroline
